ICOBI with support from the University of Washington has been implementing an MP3 study in Bubare Sub County since November 2011. This study has been covering the 6 parishes of Bubare. The study is entitled “HIV Treatment and prevention through Home based HIV Counseling and Testing and facilitated referral in Uganda and South Africa”. This study is implemented through Resident parish mobilisers i.e. 1 per parish and 5 prevention officers.
Achievements as of todate
- A total of 991 households were visited for HBCT
- ICOBI enumerated 2,256 adults i.e. 1,032 males and 1,224 females
- 2,113 (93.7%) were enrolled into the study i.e. 941 males (91.2%), 1172 females (95.8%)
- A total of 2,108 (99.8%) participants accepted to test for HIV and also received their results i.e. 938 males (99.7%) and 1,170 females (99.8%)
- First time testers were 944 (47.2%) i.e. males 577 (61.6%) and females 417 (35.6%) indicating a high male involvement
- Sero discordant couples were 31 (6.0%) males HIV positive were 18 (58.1%)
- HIV positives tested and received results were 232 (10.9% HIV prevalence), males 85 (9.1%) and 145 females (12.4%)
- Newly identified infections were 113 (49.1%) i.e. 46 males (54.1%) and 67 females (46.2%)
- Those who met CD4 criteria for ART using POC PIMA CD4 machines were 87 (37.8%)
- Couples identified were 586 of which 521 (88.9%) tested and received results together
- The study is currently in month 12 /last follow up visits
- So far a total of 547 viral load tests have been processed at MU-JHU core laboratory and their results received and also sent to coordinating centre
