Integrated Community Based Initiatives-ICOBI is one of the 17 CSOs that were selected to implement immunization interventions to reach zero-dose and under-immunized children, and its geographical focus will be the six administrative units that include the districts of Ibanda, Kazo, Mbarara, Isingiro, Ntungamo and Mbarara City, under the Equity Accelerator Fund. Activities to be implemented by ICOBI will contribute to achieving the MOH/UNEPI goal of; fully immunising every child and priority population at risk of vaccines preventable diseases to achieve and sustain 95% coverage for all antigens, reduce the number of under-immunized children and intensify efforts to reach zero-dose children in Uganda. ICOBI’s activities will also contribute to achieving UNEPI’s specific objectives of the Full Portfolio Planning (FPP) grants, as stated below;

 

  1. Achieve 95% Diphtheria Pertussis Tetanus (DPT3) coverage by end of 2028.
  2. Reduce the proportion of zero-dose children from 3% 2022 to 1.5% by end of 2025 and 0.5% by end of 2028.
  • Achieve zero stock-out for all vaccines and related supplies at all levels of the health system by end of 2028.
  1. Increase the country capacity to identify and reach target populations, monitor, and evaluate program performance.
  2. Increase program capacity to effectively manage program resources and accountability at all levels.

 

ICOBI is implementing high impact community activities for demand creation to address zero dose and under immunization among children in districts of Ibanda, Kazo,Mbarara,Mbarara City,Isingiro and Ntungamo in Ankole region.

 

Objectives of the project:

  1. To improve demand, access to and utilization of integrated immunization services for children targeting zero dose and under immunized children in target sub counties of the district.
  2. To improve knowledge and positive attitude towards immunization services among key community gatekeepers in the district.
  3. To ensure that 90% of children in the target district sub counties are fully immunized against vaccine preventable diseases.
